Answers to common questions about maintenance, styling, and starting your loc journey.
Frequency depends on your hair texture, growth rate, and preferred look. Most clients schedule retwists every 4–6 weeks to maintain neat roots and reduce frizz. We recommend a consultation to create a personalized timeline based on your lifestyle and hair health.
When installed with proper technique and gentle tension, starter locs should not damage healthy hair. Our stylists assess scalp condition, use careful parting and tension control, and provide aftercare to minimize breakage and support strong, healthy loc development.
Interlocking and retwisting both maintain locs but differ by technique. Interlocking is gentler for some textures and secures the root differently; retwisting smooths the root with product and palm rolling. The best method depends on your loc size, texture, and maintenance preferences.
Creating starter locs can take anywhere from two to six hours depending on hair length, density, and chosen method. Smaller, more numerous locs take longer, while larger sections are quicker. We provide time estimates during consultation based on your desired result.
We advise waiting at least a few weeks after creating starter locs before major chemical services to allow roots to settle. Light styling is fine immediately, but for color or chemical treatments, consult your stylist so we can protect loc integrity and minimize damage.
Use residue-free shampoos, light oils for scalp moisture, and avoid heavy creams that cause buildup. We recommend natural, clarifying products and a gentle routine tailored to your loc type. Our stylists can suggest specific products and a maintenance plan during your visit.
