Get answers to common questions about Semi-Permanent (Rinse) Color.
Semi-permanent rinse generally lasts between 4–12 shampoos depending on hair porosity, maintenance, and product choice. Using sulfate-free shampoo and cool water can extend vibrancy and slow fading between salon visits.
No harsh damage is caused because the formula coats rather than lifts the hair shaft. It’s gentle on previously colored hair, though existing damage can affect outcomes, so our stylists will assess before application.
Semi-permanent color deposits pigment, so it won’t significantly lighten natural hair. It’s best for tone shifts, enhancing richness, or adding gloss. Major lightening requires bleach or permanent color services.
For best longevity, wait 24–48 hours before shampooing. When you do wash, use sulfate-free, color-safe products and cool water to preserve pigment and maintain shine longer.
Patch tests aren’t always mandatory but are recommended for new clients or those with sensitive skin or allergy history. We can perform a quick test 48 hours prior to your appointment if needed.
No—semi-permanent rinses do not lift or lighten hair. They add pigment and refresh shade. If you want lighter tones, a consultation for bleaching or permanent color will be necessary.
